The ISIS militant group has claimed an attack carried out in Tajikistan which resulted in the death of 4 foreign tourists. The attack resulted in the deaths of a Dutch national, a Swiss national and two Americans.
The tourists were hit by a car while they were cycling in the Danghara district which is around 70km from Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Apart from these four, 3 other tourists have also been injured in the attack.
This marks the first time that an attack has been claimed by the ISIS in Tajikistan. However, the group has not yet provided any proof whatsoever of the claim.
During a special operation, the authorities later killed two people who were suspected of being involved in the attack. The same operation also resulted in the arrest of 4 other people and the recovery of a damaged car. It is believed that the car was the one used in the attack.
The fact is that ISIS does not have a known presence in the country of Tajikistan. On the other hand, it is known that people from the country, along with other nations in Central Asia, have joined the military outfit. Authorities have previously arrested recruiters or sympathizers believed to be associated with ISIS.
