A Syrian fighter jet that entered Israeli airspace was shot down by Israel military forces. It is being said that the Russian-made Sukhoi plane was under scrutiny when it flew some 2 kilometers into Israeli airspace. In response to the statement issued by the Israel military forces, Syria claimed that one of their jets was targeted by Israel when it was carrying out raids in southern Syria, inside the Syrian airspace.
It was reported that Israel’s air defenses fired two Patriot missiles at the jet. A spokesperson from the Israel Defense Forces mentioned that the plane could be either a Sukhoi-22 or Sukhoi-24 and it crashed down in Syrian territory, in the southern portion of the Syrian Golan Heights. However, the fate of the jet pilots is still not known. However, a source close to the Assad government mentioned that the pilot has been killed.
The Israeli military stated that the Syrian plane took off from the T-4 airbase near Homs, which remained the target of two Israeli airstrikes in the past. The base was used by Iranian forces and used to be a command center for Iran’s drone operations in Syria. Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu mirrored the statement issued by the military and called it to be a violation of the existing agreement between two countries. He further added that his country’s air defense system recognized a Syrian Air Force jet that took off from the T-4 Syrian Air Force base and entered the Israeli airspace. He made it clear that he won’t accept such penetration of fighter jets in their territory. His forces acted promptly. Hence, he requests Syria to abide the Separation of Forces Agreement.
Speaking about the incident resident reported that they saw interceptor missiles being shot from the Safed area and heard huge explosions. The Israel army stated that the Syrians are responsible for whatever actions happening in Israel’s territory.
