The US Sends More Patriot Missiles to the Middle East to be ready for Iran

US Deputy Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan has approved the sending of a new Patriot missile to the Middle East, an official in the United States, and in a response to what the United States recently saw as Washington’s threat to Iran, he told Reuters on Friday.

The decision supports US defense and emerges when the Trump administration accelerates the deployment of a carrier strike group and sends bombers to the Middle East after they are concerned about possible preparations for an attack on Iran.

The decision to send the Patriot missiles to the region will cause a reversal, which will take place only months after the Pentagon has removed several Patriot batteries from the Middle East.

Last year, authorities talked about the Patriots’ withdrawal as part of the Pentagon’s efforts to regulate US military deployments globally, as it tried to prioritize military struggles from Russia and China.

The United States ordered the countries around the world to stop effectively buying Iranian oil, or to face US sanctions, which Washington said aimed at completely stopping Iran’s crude exports.

Last month, Washington blacklisted Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group.

US officials have said they have detected disturbing symptoms that Iran could prepare a military intervention.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, US officials said that one of the intelligence pieces was transported to Iran’s missiles by ships. One of the officials said the observed missile was capable of launching from a small ship.

The authorities also said there is growing concern about the threat of Iran-backed Shiite militias in Iraq, which has long been unconcerned with US troops seeking to defeat the Sunni-militant organization, the Islamic State.

The US Maritime Administration (MARAD) said on Thursday that the possibility of action against Iran and its regional proxies against the United States and its common interests has increased since the beginning of May.
