Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Monday defended the low voter turnout in the recent overhauled “patriots-only” legislative election, but said she was not able to give specific reasons for it. China’s Foreign Ministry also said the 30.2 per cent turnout rate was within a “normal and reasonable range,” but some Hong Kong residents said they were unimpressed by the new electoral arrangements, which completely exclude voices critical of the Chinese central government – Dec 20, 2021
